| Fishing Guide Knows Lake Whitney | ||
Beautiful Lake Whitney is one of the top fishing lakes in Texas, and Randy Routh is one of the top fishing Guides. During the last 25 years, he has learned to read the lake. He adjusts his fishing to seasonal, weekly even daily patterns whether its drifting live bait under balloons, fishing cut bait on structure, chasing the birds with artificials, fishing topwater or slabs off the bottom or down rigging under a full moon. A large Percentage of Routh's clients are avid fisherman who want to enjoy the complete experience of striper fishing. Chunk-n-wind, feel the bite and set the hook. As much as he enjoys having this type of client on his boat, he really enjoys teaching children to catch their first fish or watching a husband help his wife battle a large striper and land it in the boat. | Routh has won several tournaments, from small local contests to Redfish tournaments on the Louisiana coast. He also enjoys other fresh water fishing, but the striped bass has become his sport fish choice. Routh is deeply rooted in the Lake. His grandfather, Edward Routh, helped build the Lake Whitney Dam in the late 40's. His father, Elmo Routh, grew up hunting and fishing the land that Lake Whitney now covers. His wife, Melinda Terrell Routh of Itasca, was fourth runner up in the 23rd annual Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant. Living in Burleson has given Routh the opportunity to fish most of the popular lake in North central Texas. He has selected lake Whitney to base his guide service and enjoys passing on tips to the novice as well as the avid fisherman. Routh thanks his mother, Virgina, for | instilling in him the love of God and family, and his father for teaching him to be a hard worker who loves the great outdoors. He thanks his Uncle Van and Aunt Louise for allowing him to work the summers of his youth in their bait shop. And though he can't remember her name, he thanks a little old lady who picked him up many Sunday mornings and took him fishing. He especially thanks Chris Schafer at Lil' Rocky Lodge at Lake Whitney, and the late Paul Cook for taking him under their wings and helping him fine tune his fishing skills. One of Routh's favorite qoutes is by Cotton Cordell: "First teach a child to love God, teach them second to love their family and thired, teach them to hunt and fish, and by the time they reach their teens, no dope peddler under the sun will ever have a chance to teach them anything".
